Living and working in a new country is bound to provide countless
opportunities for new experiences and Bermuda is certainly no exception! The Island's sub-tropical climate means that you're able to enjoy a variety of outdoor activities year round (without the risk of frostbite!!).
Water Activities:
Surely one of the major draws to Bermuda is the range of water activities available. Scuba diving and snorkeling are widely enjoyed in Bermuda - the water is incredibly clear and relatively warm throughout the year. There are many coral reefs to explore with all sorts of colourful fish to encounter. In addition to the reefs, there are many historical shipwrecks beneath the oceans surface that attract divers from around the world. There are several qualified PADI dive instructors on the Island for those of you who wish to become certified and enjoy this sport.
Boating, Sailing and Kayaking are other popular activities that many enjoy on the water in the off hours. There is a beautiful coastline to explore and many interesting sights (and boats!) to see in the various harbours. Fishing in Bermuda, including deep sea, reef and shore fishing, is bound to produce some unique catches (and stories)! Species of fish include marlin, barracuda, tuna, yellow snapper, bonefish and many more.
Land Activities:
Golf anyone? Bermuda has 9 golf courses on it's 22 square mile surface - the highest concentration of courses per square mile in the world! Breathtaking scenery and unique elevated greens are just some of the characteristics you'll encounter while golfing in Bermuda. Horseback riding (often on the beach!), walking, tennis, soccer and cricket are other favourite pastimes. Even with all these options available, many choose to simply relax on the beach with a good book!
For those interested in the arts, there are a fairly large number of museums, historic buildings, art galleries, parks and gardens to explore. You can enjoy a fantastic meal in one of Bermuda's many restaurants, or pack a lunch and enjoy a day exploring (and likely photographing!) the Island on your scooter!
Bermuda is a distinctive country that boasts a wonderful lifestyle for those who appreciate it's unique offerings. While some may miss a few of the amenities of big city life that aren't available in Bermuda (such as fast food chains, large theatres, dance clubs etc), there is certainly a wide variety of activities available to entertain and enjoy during your stay.
